Siviller Castle, also known as a fortified manor house (casa forte) due to its unique function as a fortified private residence, was built in 1415 by Giovanni Siviller, who was invested by King Alfonso of Aragon with the fiefdom encompassing the village of Sorres. Initially, it served as a defensive stronghold against potential rebel raids. Once conflicts ceased, it was transformed into a noble residence. The Alag\u00f3n family claimed ownership of the castle for centuries, under whom it became a Marquisate (15941703). Following the abolition of the feudal system, it served public utility purposes and housed the district prison. This function ceased in the second half of the 19th century, and the castle was transferred to private owners. Since 1910, it has been protected by the Superintendency as a Monument of National Interest.Siviller Castle, a symbol of rebirth, is centrally located within the town and stands on an area covering approximately three thousand square meters, nearly half of which is built up. Due to its architectural features, the structure can be traced back to the masia typology, a sort of fortified baronial farmstead of Spanish origin. The complex consists of a main fort surrounded by other service buildings.The layout features a U-shaped configuration, composed of three wings that define the area of an inner courtyard. This structure spans three levels: the ground floor, first floor, and attic. Notable features include numerous Gothic-Catalan details that embellish the structure. Belonging to the Municipalitys heritage since 1991, it underwent a comprehensive restoration project completed in 2004. Among the appurtenant buildings, the one located along Via Baronale is currently used as the Council Chamber.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>
