The Church of St. Vitalia, dedicated to the martyr venerated in various towns across the Campidano region, was rebuilt at the end of the 19th century thanks to private donations, not far from the site where an earlier church anciently stood. Since the land of the ancient church belonged to private owners, it was decided to build a new edifice, thanks also to the donation of a new plot of land by two wealthy local families. Construction work on the new church began in 1894 and likely concluded in 1895, as documented by the inventory commissioned by the bishop in 1902.For the construction of the building, materials were repurposed from both the old, destroyed church and the ancient Church of Santa Sofia; these include two column fragments placed within the wall and beneath the tabernacle, as well as the lintel, which is currently used as the high altar. In the 1900s, the building underwent extensive restoration work, during which a squared stone was brought to light outside on the lower left, bearing inscriptions whose meaning, unfortunately, remains unknown.The Church of Santa Vitalia hosts the most important festival in Villasor, held annually during the second week of October, during which many devotees, including non-locals, gather to honor the Saint. To this day, the festival continues to attract producers, traders, and exhibitors from all over the region.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>
